BOSTON (WHDH) -- Fans of all shapes and sizes made their way to Faneuil Hall to catch a glimpse of Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie arriving hours before the show started. Some have been loyal watchers for years.

Deborah Gibbs came all the way from Warwick, Rhode Island.

“We came all this way to see Matt and Savannah. We remember Matt Lauer from being on PM magazine back in the early 80s,” said Gibbs.

They had all different kinds of reasons for making it out to Quincy Market.

“It’s my mom's birthday today and she watches 7News I’m hoping she sees me and happy birthday mom!” said one fan.

“We just get our day started with "Today Show." we just thought it would be so cool to see it live,” said another fan.

Then there was another fan with a treat: “I have an original Boston Cream Pie from the Omni Parker House!”

They gave the pie to Matt and Savannah. Matt had a little bit of fun with the crowd -- calling out Savannah as a Yankees fan.

A lot of the Bay State's favorites were there for the festivities. 7News spoke with Dropkick Murphy’s before they hit the stage.

Why Dropkick Murphys? They said with a laugh, “We're the only ones home maybe? Aerosmith said no.”

The sights and sound of Boston were on the national stage. They said up with of their favorite segments was listening to the Dropkick Murphys.
