Crime writer wins lawsuit against money advisers

BOSTON (WHDH) -- A jury awarded famous crime writer Patricia Cornwell more than $50 million on Tuesday.

“This is an amazing day. God bless the jury, God bless justice, we're thrilled beyond words,” said Cornwell.

Cornwell left court with her partner by her side and she says justice was served.

“It’s been unbelievable ordeal and Staci and I are very grateful,” said Cornwell.

A federal jury awarded Cornwell $50 million, finding the firm, Anchin, Block and Anchin that she hired to manage her millions, instead cost her millions in losses.

“I think at the end of the day, we came up with a fair and equitable decision and hopefully Anchin learns from this,” said John Martus, jury foreman.

But the company and one of its main managers said there wasn’t missing money, just a bad economy paired with Cornwell's extravagant lifestyle.

“I'm disappointed. I think the jury tried to hurt us. I'm disappointed,” said Evan Snapper, former principal at Anchin, Block and Anchin.

Cornwell and her neuroscientist wife, Staci Gruber, were whisked away after the jury's decision and she said she's grateful to end this chapter of her life.

“I think it’s everything, it’s a lot of things and the jury saw it and we’re just speechless,” said Cornwell.
