Company reminds customers to be prepared for storm-related power outages
BOSTON (March 6, 2013) – As a late-winter storm approached the region, NSTAR is prepared to respond to any damage and related power outages across its service area. The company will activate its Emergency Response Plan tonight and is adding additional line workers, tree crews and support personnel at its regional service centers.
“Our workers are prepared to respond to any power outages caused by the storm as safely and as quickly as possible,” said Craig Hallstrom, President of NSTAR Electric. “We remind our customers to stay away from all down lines and call us if they need us anytime of the day or night.”
NSTAR suggests all customers prepare for power outages by assembling a storm kit and making arrangements to protect themselves and their families. Some suggestions for items to include in a storm kit are:
• Flashlights with spare batteries
• A battery-operated radio or TV
• First-aid kit and medications
• Canned, freeze-dried or dehydrated foods
• A manual can opener
• Bottled water
• Baby or pet supplies
• Important phone numbers
NSTAR also reminds customers that while back-up emergency generators can be very useful during power outages, it’s crucial to personal safety and the safety of others – including NSTAR line crews – that they be installed and operated properly.
