BOSTON (WHDH) -- Friday’s morning commute was tough, even in the city of Boston. Thursday night drivers dealt with the wet roads until about 10 or 11:00 when the snow started sticking.
Cambridge Street, just covered with snow and underneath the snow is a layer of slush. Snow fell steadily through the night but in terms of accumulation, it picked up. The region was getting another wave of snow, in the morning hours Friday.
The snow was expected to continue accumulating until at least sunrise or shortly after.
In Government Center, snow measured about 4 inches on the roof, and around three. Snow was between four and five inches in the Commons.
The major problem was that layer of slush underneath the snow. The first couple of inches of snow were grueling on snow-blowers because of high water content. This is a lighter consistency so the new snow will be easier to move but the old snow is stuck underneath causing a problem for drivers, shovelers and snow-blowers alike.
