Experts: Probable meteor spotted along East Coast
BOSTON (WHDH) -- A flash of light that experts are saying was probably a meteor was seen streaking across the sky along the East Coast Friday night.
Since 8 p.m., there have been at least 350 reports from Virginia to Boston of a possible meteor sighting.
7News spoke with one expert who says possible meteor sightings occur more often than one might think.
“It’s not an incredibly rare event but it is very unusual to have that many people observe it and also it was unusually bright. These types of meteors happen once or twice a year. The unusual thing is that it was so well observed not so long after sunset,” said Ron Dantowitz, Director of the Clay Observatory.
It was just last month that a meteor sailed through the sky in Russia leading to an aerial explosion, causing $33 million in property damage.
