Video shows beat down outside Boston bar
BOSTON (WHDH) -- A bouncer is facing charges after a brawl outside The Grand Canal bar in Boston early Saturday morning.
Video shows a man, who witnesses told police is 31-year-old Sidney Phillips of Avon, kicking someone’s head on the ground Saturday at about 1:30 a.m.
The man who shot the video described what he witnessed to 7News.
“The first thing I saw was just two groups coming together very, very quick. You could tell it was just the bouncers and a couple kids outside with their girlfriends. More toward the beginning was a bouncer pushing a girl and then what seemed to be the boyfriend pushing back,” the witness said.
Other surveillance video shows police arriving to break it up. Police charged Phillips with assault and battery.
Witnesses say the incident started inside the bar when one patron accidentally bumped into another. They told police two groups started arguing and that Phillips kicked, punched, and choked some of them as he removed the two groups from the bar.
Police say two men and two women were taken to the hospital.
People who saw video of the incident were horrified.
“It’s pretty scary, because I work right there,” said Briannah Mosher, who works near the bar.
Phillips was released on $1,500 cash bail. He will be arraigned Tuesday in Boston Municipal Court.
A spokesman for The Grand Canal said the bar has no comment.
