8-year-old boy killed in blast, mother and sister injured
DORCHESTER, Mass. (WHDH) -- An 8-year-old boy from Dorchester was killed in the blast at the Boston Marathon. His mother and sister were also critically injured.
The family is very active in their community. Eight-year-old Martin Richard was at the marathon to watch his father race. There was no word on if his father had finished the race.
Richard’s mother and sister were recovering in the hospital. Richard’s mother had surgery Monday night after getting a brain injury from the blast. It was reported to be a grave, serious injury. His 6-year-old sister lost her leg in the blast. There was also word that the family had a son in the fifth grade.
A single candle was lit in front of their house and a single word was written on the sidewalk: Peace.
Two other people have died from the Boston Marathon bombing, dozens of others were injured, many critically.
