Man's two friends from Wakefield lose legs in blast
BOSTON (WHDH) -- Steve Byrne has a BB imbedded in his neck, but knows he's lucky to be alive after the Boston Marathon bombing.
He was with two brothers from Wakefield and other friends at the marathon when tragedy struck.
“We were having a great day waiting for our friend to cross the finish line and then all of a sudden it turned in a flash,” Byrne said. “We were right near the picture where they show the backpack and the mailbox, that’s exactly where we were. I was fortunate enough to have the mailbox take most of the impact below half of my body. The rest of the shrapnel from above the mailbox is what caught in the face.”
