MBTA driver returns $1,100 found on bus route
BOSTON (WHDH) -- An MBTA driver who found an envelope filled with cash on his bus route is looking for its rightful owner.
“Finders keepers" doesn’t seem to be a saying that Kevin White lives by.
“The way I was brought up if you find something, you need to let it be returned to the rightful owner,” White said.
And that's exactly what happened Monday on board his MBTA bus.
“Passenger exiting bus came up, tapped her card and said she found bank this on the seat which ended up having a little over $1,100 in it,” said White.
It’s an unusual situation for White who was happy to see an honest passenger.
“It is surprising but it’s nice to see people looking out for other people,” said White.
White took the envelope and turned it in, never thinking about keeping it for himself.
“People surviving day to day, he took it out of bank for a reason. I’m happy I can do my job as a bus driver to make sure it got returned to him properly,” White said.
The MBTA operator is now focused on making sure the money gets back into the right hands.
“The passengers are happy, he'll be happy now, I’m happy,” White said.
White told 7News that the bank has contacted the passenger who left it on the bus. The man is expected to pick up the money soon.
