Memorial underway for former Gov. Cellucci
BOSTON (AP) -- Massachusetts is pausing for a final tribute to Paul Cellucci.
Honorary state police pallbearers carried the former governor's flag-draped casket up the long front steps of the Statehouse after it arrived by motorcade from his hometown of Hudson.
Cellucci died Saturday at his home in Hudson from complications of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
A who's who of Massachusetts political figures from both political parties -- including former governors Mitt Romney, Jane Swift, William Weld and Michael Dukakis-- has gathered at the Statehouse for a final farewell to Cellucci, a Republican who served as governor and lieutenant governor, as well as in the state Legislature.
A memorial service is planned in the House chamber, and later Cellucci's body will lie in repose in the Hall of Flags.
