Local jewelry store makes Bruins-inspired pieces
HYDE PARK, Mass. (WHDH) – A local artist took her love for the Bruins to a whole new level.
Holly Christensen works at Dune Jewelry in Hyde Park and she makes jewelry from sand.
“White, gulf shores Alabama. This is actually Prince Edward Island, Canada,” said Christensen.
The last few weeks, she has seen special requests.
“A few people suggested it, so we started making black and gold hockey jewelry,” she said.
These cuff links were made from local sand.
“Wingershek Beach in Gloucester is the only beach sand that’s black in Massachusetts. Carson Beach sand comes out gold because it’s made up primarily of quartz,” said Christensen.
One associate told 7News how the jewelry is made.
“We take the sand separately and mix them with our epoxy resin that we sure,” said Dune Jewelry associate, Lauren Behning.
Bruins fans have come in an out to put their special orders in. One fan came to check on a pair of earrings he ordered for his wife.
“Is it for her or for me? I won’t be wearing them but every time I see her wearing them it’s going to remind me of the Boston Bruins team. So go Bruins,” said Emanual Williams who ordered custom made Bruins earrings for his wife.
Talk about taking your love for hockey to another level, Christensen made cuff links that used actual hockey pucks. One woman actually ground up her son’s hockey puck and sent the shards to Christenson.
But what’s the most popular jewelry?
“We’ve had a ton of requests for earrings, so there’s a lot of female Bruins fans out there,” said Christensen.
The staff at Dune Jewelry has been working overtime to fill all the orders. But it’s a pleasure for them, as they are Bruins fans too.
