Building collapse in East Boston, no injuries
EAST BOSTON (WHDH) -- A building collapsed on Utah Street in East Boston Thursday evening.
Two workers were on ladders when the building collapsed and they fell to the ground. Both declined medical attention and appeared to be okay.
Inspectional services were called to the building around 4:30 in the afternoon. One tenant said the workers were hammering at the bricks all day, trying to fix a wall when it crumbled.
“Basically I was sitting out front when I heard a big explosion and when I rounded the corner the whole wall was down and the two guys were laying on the ground,” said a neighbor.
Ten adults and 11 children were living in that building and they’ve all been evacuated for their safety. Two neighboring buildings were also evacuated as a precaution but one is believed to be vacant. The Red Cross is helping out the displaced people.
