Jared Remy's past history with the law
WALTHAM, Mass. (WHDH) -- This is not the first time Jared Remy has had trouble with the law. Now many people are questioning why he was out of jail just days after being charged with assaulting longtime girlfriend Jennifer Martel.
Tuesday night Waltham police were called to Jennifer Martel's home where there were reports of a fight between her and Jared Remy.
According to the police report the fight was over Martel spending too much time at a neighbor’s house. She said Remy has a "very controlling personality and wants to be in charge" of her.
Martel also told police that during the fight Remy "grabbed her neck and head and slammed her head into the bathroom mirror."
Police showed up and found no marks on Martel's head but still arrested Remy for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon but he wasn't held for long.
“Mr. Remy was released on Wednesday with personal recognizance with a bail warning, no abuse rule,” said Marian Ryan, Middlesex District attorney.
Back in 2003 he was charged with assault and battery after allegedly hitting a woman in the head with a beer bottle.
In 2005, police were called to Waltham apartment after a woman claimed Jared Remy beat her up. The victim in that case said Remy threw his cell phone at her and punched her in the stomach.
Then she said Remy "approached her on the floor and kicked her in the back and continued by kicking her in the stomach and again in the face."
Remy plead guilty in connection to that case and spent time in the house of corrections and finished probation in 2008.
