Mass. casino panel hears Boston/Everett dispute
BOSTON (AP) -- Representatives of casino mogul Steve Wynn have told the state gambling commission that his proposed casino development lies entirely within Everett, a claim challenged by Boston officials.
At issue is the question of whether Boston should be considered a host community or a surrounding community for the Wynn proposal. If the commission determines Boston is a host community, residents of the Charlestown neighborhood would have the right to vote on the plan.
Former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld, representing Wynn, told the commission Wednesday that all the land and all of the buildings designated for the casino development are within Everett.
Boston officials displayed maps they say showed a sliver of the land was in Boston.
The commission gave both sides until the end of the week to resolve the dispute.
