Man accused of sexually assaulting East Boston girl
EAST BOSTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- On Monday, Jose Avila was charged with sexually assaulting a preteen girl in East Boston.
Police said 39-year-old Avila stopped his car when a toy the girl was playing with blew into the street as he was driving by.
Avila allegedly picked up the girl’s toy and sexually assaulted her as he handed it back.
An upstairs neighbor said they witnessed Avila assault the girl during the daytime.
Avila, who did not appear in court, was charged with indecent assault and battery. He is on house arrest and was ordered to stay away from all children younger than 17 with the exception of his daughter.
Police are investigating whether Avila could be connected to other sexual assaults in the neighborhood, but he is only charged with the one crime at this time.
