State-wide bar crawl raises $34K for cancer research
JAMAICA PLAIN, Mass. (WHDH) -- Todd Ruggere spent the past nine months drinking his way across the end of the Commonwealth to raise money for cancer research. On Thursday his challenge to have a beer in every town in Massachusetts ended at the Sam Adams brewery.
Ruggere started his bar crawl in January, with the goal of finishing by the end of the year.
He said everyone he has met during the fundraising campaign has been happy to be a part of the journey.
“People are so generous. People were coming up to me wanting to donate. People contacted me saying can I send a check, where do I send a check, where can I meet you. The state is unbelievable. There are so many things to do,” Ruggere said.
Ruggere has raised more than $34,000 at stops ranging from bars to farms and even a nudist colony.
“In Hancock there are no bars so I had to resort to a nudist colony. They actually saw my article and they called me and said, 'We want you to come have your beer at the nudist colony',” Ruggere said.
He finished his quest 10 days before his first child was due.
"If I do this now, it will be worth it in the end when I’m done before the baby comes,” Ruggere said.
