Fan accused of trying to steal Sox equipment
BOSTON (WHDH) -- A fan tried to make off with a piece of Red Sox history Saturday night and is now facing charges.
A police report says Red Sox security stopped 23-year-old Thomas Robbins in the clubhouse, where the players were celebrating.
And that he tried to take off with first baseman Mike Napoli's glove, after the ALCS championship.
According to the report, as the witness approached the suspect he asked him what he was doing there.
The suspect dropped a baseball glove and attempted to exit the clubhouse area. The suspect kept saying he was lost and didn't know where he was or how he got there. Authorities said he was trying to take team equipment including Mike Napoli’s baseball glove.
Authorities were able to recover Napoli's glove. Robbins was caught in the players' parking lot, trying to run off.
Red Sox security said the areas that Robbins got access to are clearly marked off-limits. Police said security workers found passes in Robbins’ pocket that he may have used to access those off-limits areas.
