Amtrak has big plans for high speed travel from Boston to Washington, DC.

The company unveiled plans to build new high speed rail lines along the east coast with trains reaching speeds of 220 miles per hour.

Amtrak says it will drastically reduce travel times along the congested corridor with hubs in Baltimore, New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, DC.

Amtrak envisions a 30-year timetable.

"It isn't a dream, it isn't a fantasy, it isn't an illusion, it's something that's done in Europe and Asia and the time has come for it to be done in America. Plain and simple as that," said Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell.

The time travel from Boston to New York would be an estimated 84 minutes.

The proposal has no funding yet, and comes with a price tag of $117 billion.
