Woburn officer at Lahey Clinic after shooting
WOBURN, Mass. -- A police officer was shot and wounded during an attempted jewelry store robbery Tuesday morning, and one suspect, also injured, was arrested, authorities said.
Both Officer Robert Denapoli, 51, and the injured suspect were rushed to the Lahey Clinic in nearby Burlington.
At 4 p.m. on Tuesday it was reported that Denapoli was in surgery. Earlier in the day Denapoli was apparently conscious and talking. Sources said he was shot twice in the leg and once in the arm after a robbery a Musto Jewelers in Woburn on Tuesday morning.
The hospital reported Denapoli as under observation. The spokesperson said new information will likely be available soon. State police said Denapoli’s prognosis is good despite being shot multiple times.
Shortly after the shooting, police officers started showing up at the Lahey Clinic to support Denapoli.
Denapoli is a 16-year veteran of the force.
The suspect, who was also brought to the Lahey Clinic, but there is no information on the suspect’s current condition.
