Search continues for suspects in Woburn robbery

WOBURN, Mass. -- A massive manhunt continued Wednesday for two suspects wanted in the shooting of a veteran police officer and an attempted robbery at Musto Jewelers in Woburn the day before.
Woburn residents described a very scary scenario. They said on Wednesday, even though it was back to business, they still feel scared knowing there are still at least two suspects still on the loose.
Musto Jewelers was closed on Wednesday because of Tuesday’s attempted robbery and shooting. Officials said evidence from the crime was found just blocks away.
“I was right here when all of the sudden we started hearing the gunshots,” said Connie Dell’Anno, who works nearby. “Bang, bang, bang, bang, you know. Then it stopped.”
Workers in the Four Corners area of Woburn were still shaken the day after the shooting.
“One guy ran this way,” said one woman. “Where the other guy went, we don’t know.”
“My husband was making a pizza in the back window and saw the officer down and I ran to call 911,” said one woman.
Workers watched and listened as Woburn Officer Robert Denapoli was gunned down on Tuesday. He underwent surgery and is listed in good condition, according to the Lahey Clinic.
The memories of a December 2010 shooting that took the life of Woburn Officer Jack Maguire were still fresh in the town’s mind when the news of Denapoli spread. The fear remained real on Wednesday as police continued to search for the other suspects.
“Kind of nervous, scared,” said Alli Mitchell, who works nearby. “I think I’ll feel that until they catch them.”
Just down the block from where Denapoli was shot is a second crime scene related to the shooting -- in a family’s backyard.
“My husband called and said, ‘I hope you’re not at your mothers. Don’t go to Four Corners. Stay at home.’ Then he called and said, ‘There are bullet holes in your mother’s house,’” said one woman.
The house is where one suspect was shot by police when he was trying to make a run from the crime scene.
“It’s a little bit uneasy, just thinking that it all happened here,” said one woman.
Around the corner from the second crime scene, another neighbor is filled with nerves. Police sealed off his block after finding evidence from another fleeing suspect.
“Over there picking something up and spraying the ground, it looked like a white mask,” said one man.
On Wednesday evening police were still searching for the other suspects.
The suspect that was shot was expected to be arraigned on Wednesday, but was not. He is listed in serious condition at Lahey Clinic. Police also said they are having difficulties identifying him. An arraignment is expected later this week.
