Investigators search for woman missing for 20 years

WOBURN, Mass. -- Investigators searched an area behind a McDonald’s on Montvale Avenue in Woburn on Thursday for a person who has been missing for more than 20 years.

Last week a private investigator said there were new leads in the case.

Melanie Melanson disappeared on Oct. 27, 1989, just days before her 15th birthday. She was last seen with friends in a wooded area of Woburn.

No one has ever been charged in her disappearance.

Investigators said Wednesday's dig did not turn up any new clues.
