BOSTON -- Boston Mayor Thomas Menino said no city rings in the New Year like Boston, but he advised people to take advantage of public transportation.

The ‘T’ will be free starting at 8 p.m. and will run later than normal. Menino said if people decide to drive there are parking restrictions and road closures throughout the city.

“I encourage everyone to come to Boston to celebrate New Year’s Eve, to pick up a First Night button like I did,” said Menino. “There are 200 performances, events across our city.”

The Boston Police Department advises families that plan to attend first night to have a plan in case of getting separated or lost.
