BOSTON -- A young child is on the road to recovery. He’s lucky to be alive after he was hit by a car.

Thursday afternoon Jonathan and his mother were in a crosswalk when a driver failed to stop.

“I was crossing the street with my mommy and holding her hand when the car came,” said Jonathan Demosthene, the victim.

“Jonathan was just taken from my hand, he’s lifted up and the next thing I know, he’s under the car and then I’m yelling and screaming,” said Lionelle Demosthene, Jonathan’s mother.

Hearing the mother’s frantic screams, strangers ran over and lifted the Pontiac sedan off her son.

“They pulled him out. They laid him on the sidewalk and I went to him,” said Lionelle.

Five-year-old Jonathan suffered a fractured leg and many scratches and bruises. Doctors at Children’s Hospital said it was miraculous he avoided any serious head wounds.

“I’m grateful that he’s alive and that he’s here with us and that we’re getting get well wishes, not sorry for your loss wishes,” said Lionelle.

Jonathan will have to wear a cast for about 7 weeks but that should not interfere with his immediate plans at home.

“I’m going to play with my baby sister,” said Jonathan.

The driver has been cited.
