BOSTON -- Patients’ financial information from St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center was found outside an office building in Charlestown.
Director of Media Relations of the Steward Health Care System, Chris Murphy, released the following statement:
“The recent report of mishandled information at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center does not involve patient medical records. However, limited patient financial information may have been compromised. We take our responsibility to protect patient information very seriously. We are aggressively investigating and have informed the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. As part of the investigation we are reviewing all of our policies and procedures to ensure that all patient financial information is properly safeguarded. Any impacted individuals will be notified directly."
The papers were found sitting on the ground outside a moving company at the Schrafft's Building in Charlestown. An employee at the moving company found the papers on Friday inside the building’s complex. The company informed the hospital, which then retrieved the information, saying it is grateful to that employee.
