BU hockey player charged with sexual assault
BOSTON (WHDH) -- A Boston University hockey player was arrested Sunday and charged with sexual assault.
Max Nicastro, a 21-year-old defenseman, is accused of sexually assaulting a female student and is being held on $25,000 bail. He will be arraigned in Brighton District Court on Tuesday.
Police arrested Nicastro on Sunday after a woman told police she was sexually assaulted by Nicastro on campus.
"First and foremost we want to make sure that we address the alleged victim here. Make sure that she gets the kind of treatment and or counseling that she needs," said Kenneth Elmore, Boston University Dean of Students.
Fellow students are disappointed.
"It is sad because the boys are such big figures on our campus and I think a lot of people really do look up to them," one student said.
University police say the alleged assault happened on campus.
The incident marks the second time since December that a BU hockey player has been arrested on serious charges. Two months ago, Corey Trivino was kicked off the hockey team after being accused of repeatedly groping a student inside her dorm room.
"Before I'm able to say it's a systematic problem, we've just got to investigate. We have just right now starting to investigate this incident," Elmore said.
"Disappointing seems like a weak word to use because, for me, it's just terrible that a person did that," said one student.
Nicastro has been suspended with just four games remaining in the season.
Some people worry these cases make the hockey program and the school look bad.
“Hearing that it's not one but two, I don't know, it's just a little upsetting,” a student said. “It’s not something you want to associate your school with."
Nicastro has been suspended from the hockey team pending the outcome of the investigation.
