BOSTON (WHDH) -- Boston police are searching for a suspect who stole a police cruiser and left it in South Boston.
An officer working a detail outside of the FedEx building on Summer Street in South Boston reported his cruiser was stolen just after 2 p.m.
“I saw the cruiser sitting there and it just really seemed odd that he would put it up on a curb there when nobody is around. I didn’t think anything of it until I saw all the commotion,” said Matt Edgerly, a parking attendant.
Police were quick to issue a BOLO -- or be on the lookout -- for that cruiser. Short time later police converged on the intersection of Congress Street and Northern Avenue, where the stolen cruiser was found marooned on the sidewalk.
“Cruisers have been stolen before…been taken for joyrides,” said Edgerly.
The cruiser was towed away. Investigators are checking the vehicle for any evidence that may have been left behind. Police continue to search for the suspect.
