Lawyers, judge to discuss Bulger trial evidence

BOSTON (AP) -- Prosecutors and defense lawyers in the case of mobster James "Whitey" Bulger are due in Boston federal court to update a judge on how they are cooperating on trial evidence.

Bulger, the former leader of the Winter Hill Gang, is charged with participating in 19 murders. He was captured in Santa Monica, Calif., last year after 16 years on the run.

Prosecutors and defense lawyers are scheduled for a status conference Wednesday afternoon with U.S. Magistrate Judge Marianne Bowler.

Bulger's lawyers have repeatedly complained that prosecutors have given them a mountain of disorganized documents they will have a difficult time evaluating before the Nov. 5 trial date.
