BOSTON (WHDH) -- Police stepped up patrols in Allston on Thursday after a Boston University graduate student was shot and killed.
“I’m a grad student as well so it’s very concerning and really troubling that that happened. I feel really sorry for him,” said Izzy Lubarski, a BU student.
“I was shocked to hear that it was a student,” said Randy Dinsmore, a neighbor.
Police were called to the area near Allston Street and Glennville Avenue in Allston around 2:30 a.m. Thursday. They arrived to find a man who had been shot in the head and leg. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
“The cops were carrying the bags and the numbers were out everywhere and they had lights all over on the car. I didn’t know what was going on. I asked the cop. He said someone got shot,” said Dinsmore.
Police are not saying what the motive for the shooting may be, but they are making progress in the investigation.
“We’ve developed some good leads on that this case in the last few hours. Beyond that, there’s very little I can say,” said Boston police commissioner Ed Davis.
BU is not releasing very much information about the victim other than he was a School of Management graduate student and not from this area.
“It’s very concerning. I mean, I live a couple of blocks away and it’s troubling knowing something like that could go on in this area,” said Lubarski.
BU officials told students and staff that this was an isolated incident. Counseling is available for anyone who needs it.
