Boston murder suspect released by error caught
BOSTON (AP) -- An East Boston man mistakenly released on bail because of a clerical error even though he was facing a murder charge has been recaptured.
Jean Torres Vargas is scheduled to be arraigned Monday after he was caught Sunday by Chelsea police.
The 31-year-old Vargas was originally indicted on aggravated assault and battery charges in connection with the November 2010 death of Michael Costa. But when the 47-year-old Costa died 13 months later of injuries suffered in the beating, the charge of murder was added.
Vargas was indicted March 14 on that charge and had been sought since he failed to appear at his April 9 arraignment.
Prosecutors say he beat and stomped Costa after Costa pointed him out to another man with whom Vargas had a dispute.
