BOSTON (WHDH) -- A group of local elementary school students got a surprise from Boston Mayor Thomas Menino on Thursday.
Six students from the Harvard-Kent Elementary School got $1,000 for college.
The students from third, fourth and fifth grades were nominated by their teachers for academic success.
The scholarship is good through graduation and can be used to pursue a degree in any major at the college or university of the recipient's choice.
