BOSTON (WHDH) -- Boston alternative radio station WFNX 101.7 FM is being sold to Clear Channel Communications.
Most of its employees were laid off Wednesday.
The alternative rock station is expected to change formats in the next few months.
The founder and owner of the station sent out a memo saying:
"Despite its celebrated history, its cutting edge programming, its tradition of breaking new music, its ardent listeners and advertisers, for some time it has been difficult to sustain the station -- especially since the start of the Great Recession."
