Boston police ID suspect in slaying of veteran

BOSTON (AP) -- Boston police have issued an arrest warrant for a suspect in the fatal shooting of an Afghanistan and Iraq war veteran who was killed as he left a club in the Theater District.

Police on Thursday issued a warrant charging 23-year-old Peter Castillo of Salem with murder in connection with the April 28 death of 22-year-old Stephen Perez of Revere.

Police say Perez was shot in the back just before 2 a.m. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Family describe Perez as a "good kid' who was attending Bunker Hill Community College and wanted a career in law enforcement.

Police did not say what led them to identify Castillo as a suspect and did not offer a motive for the shooting.

Castillo remains at large.
