BOSTON (WHDH) -- An 80-foot tree fell in Jamaica Plain on Wednesday, crushing a car and pulling down power lines.
The tree snapped utility poles on Chestnut Avenue.
“There was just a huge, huge bang and then the power went off,” said Carola Schueller, a neighbor. “It sounded like lightning had struck -- but it wasn’t lightning because there wasn’t any thunder and lightning going on.”
“We walked down the street and we saw this massive tree across the road,” said one woman.
Authorities said a red car was the only vehicle damaged. No homes were damaged and no one was injured.
Crews working to clean up the fallen tree said the tree was bound to fall because it was completely rotted.
“It’s a big old tree. It’s a grandpa tree,” said Erin Snay, a neighbor. “It’s a grandfather tree. Sad to see it go, but it was rotted and obviously it was its time.”
Two generators were brought to the scene so only a handful of people are without power.
