The answer to traffic troubles, in the palm of your hand?

BOSTON (WHDH) -- An answer to traffic trouble could soon be put in the palm of your hand.

Six IBM engineers have come up with a smartphone application designed to fix traffic problems in Boston.

The Boston Globe reports the engineers worked for three weeks to create the software, which is a prototype. The application combines information from computers, cameras, and street sensors to give city leaders traffic information in real-time.

Data from the program will let city planners make adjustments to help ease congestion.

Mayor Menino says the city will be testing the application for the next six months.

The cost to implement the app isn't known yet.
