Menino, Boston residents prepare for scorcher

SOUTH BOSTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- It could be the hottest day so far. The mayor has issued a heat advisory urging residents to drink a lot of water and limit their outdoor activities. People did their best to avoid the heat. Monday was hot, but Tuesday promise to be about 10 degrees higher.

Most of July saw mild temperatures. Temperatures could reach 99 or 100 today. The record for July in Boston is 98 degrees.

In his heat advisory, the mayor told people to seek out pools and air conditioned community centers. The heat is expected to continue through the end of the week when a cool front will bring some welcome relief.

Heat Advisories have been issued between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. for the following counties: Plymouth County, Hillsborough County, Bristol County, Essex County, Rockingham County, Franklin County, Hampden County, Middlesex County, Worcester County, Cheshire County, Suffolk County, Hampshire County, and Norfolk County.
