BOSTON (AP) -- A lawyer for Boston College has argued that a judge was wrong to order the school to release recorded interviews with former members of the Irish Republic Army to police in Northern Ireland.

The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals heard arguments Friday in the school's appeal.

In January, U.S. District Court Judge William Young ordered the school to turn over the recorded interviews to the U.S. Department of Justice for handover to police in Northern Ireland investigating the IRA's 1972 killing of a Belfast woman. The interviews were conducted as part of an oral history project.

Participants said the interviews were supposed to be kept secret until their deaths.

In July, the court upheld a ruling by Young ordering Boston College to turn over an interview with convicted IRA car bomber Dolours Price.
