The following statements were released Thursday regarding the death of former Navy SEAL, Glen Doherty, who was killed in the recent attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya.

A statement from Republican Presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney:

“Ann and I extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Glen Doherty, a native of Winchester, Massachusetts, who was among those killed in Tuesday’s assault on our consulate in Libya. Glen served America with bravery and distinction, and gave his life in an effort to save others. Befitting his service as a Navy SEAL, his legacy is one of heroism and courage. We grieve for his loss – and for all who lost their lives – and pray for the comfort of those who will miss him.”

A Statement from House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo:

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of Glen Doherty, who was slain while protecting Ambassador Chris Stevens in Libya. Earlier this week, we paid tribute to those who died on September 11, 2001 and honored those service men and women who are still fighting to keep Americans safe. In that same spirit, we pay tribute to the memory of Glen Doherty, who grew up in Winchester and bravely served as a U.S. Navy SEAL, and extend our thoughts and prayers to his entire family.”
