Gov. Deval Patrick speaks out about Dookhan's arrest

WINTHROP, Mass. (WHDH) -- Gov. Deval Patrick spoke out Saturday about chemist Annie Dookhan’s arrest and her role in the Jamaica Plain lab scandal.

“As I’ve said from the beginning, this is a very serious matter. The attorney general and state police have taken it very seriously. The investigation is not complete, so I don’t think we've seen the end of the fallout,” said Gov. Patrick.

The fallout includes more than a dozen drug defendants back on the streets after tampered evidence led to the overturning of criminal cases, as well as the resignation of Dookhan's former boss, the head of the now shut down state lab.

Investigators have been watching Dookhan for months. She was arrested on Friday and charged with two counts of obstruction of justice and for allegedly lying about her education.

Investigators admit Dookhan's alleged mismanagement has brought into question trust in the state lab.

Gov. Patrick also said he will continue working to get to the bottom of it all.

“My focus right now is to make sure that with the help of David Meyer and the team he has put together that we identify all of the individuals whose cases may have been affected by Ms. Dookhan and that we do right by them,” said Patrick.

It is likely Dookhan will face more charges as the investigation continues. So far, Dookhan has remained tightlipped to reporters, but told investigators she “messed up bad."

Dookhan is back at her home in Franklin where she must wear a GPS monitor and adhere to a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.
