BOSTON (WHDH) -- Trying to stay afloat in the digital age? How about a “like” vest.

It’s a concept linked to Facebook, making the rounds online. Say someone likes something on your Facebook page? A special vest you wear inflates and gives you a virtual hug.

The technology was reportedly developed by students for a class project at MIT and Harvard.

“I guess I could use more hugs in my life, so it's pretty cool," said Su Vora, an MIT student.

7News went to MIT to get their hi-tech take.

Mateo Williams sees it as a concept for inflating egos.

“It would feel weird to have hugs all the time for things that you really don’t deserve,” Williams said.

And getting all puffed up isn't exactly the connection everyone craves.

“It's like someone is surprise hugging. It would just be without notice, I guess, which would kind of be weird, Frances Liu, an MIT students.

For others, it's an idea to "like;” one that might pave the way for more technology to wear.

“I think the technology is interesting in terms of other applications,” said Michael Walsh, an MIT student.
