BOSTON (WHDH) -- A condom company is planning to hand out sex toys at City Hall Plaza and an outraged Mayor Menino is trying to combat the effort.
Trojan Vibrations wants to give away thousands of intimate massagers, which will retail for $30 and up.
Mayor Menino, a family man, hates the idea. He noted families are at the plaza with children all the time. His property management chief fired off a letter to Trojan’s marketing company, Massivemedia, which said: "In the strongest terms allowable" this would be an "inappropriate and irresponsible use for the plaza."
“I agree with the mayor we don't need that garbage,” said Cesar Puemape, a Peru native.
“It’s a personal thing and I don’t think it’s something that should be brought out in public,” said Gail Faulkner.
Trojan said it distributed nearly 5,000 sex toys in New York City and are looking forward to bringing their products to Boston.
City Hall Plaza is a public place and if Trojan obtains a permit, the city of Boston will not be able to stop the distribution. For now, the city is asking Trojan to not request a permit.
