Flames engulf 2 cars in Allston
ALLSTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- Fire officials believe someone intentionally set fire to two cars in an Allston garage Sunday and believe the suspect is attached to a string of previous arson attacks.
There have been a number of suspicious fires in Allston in 2012, but no arrests have been made.
"I’m surprised, shocked, for this to happen in Allston," said a local resident. “For this to happen here, I’m a little worried about it.”
The garage doors were closed and all that is left of the cars is charred remains.
“On the right is a Honda Civic, on the left is an Acura,” said Steve Macdonald, Boston Fire Department.
Damages total at least $50,000. But, nobody was injured and investigators said this fire could've been much worse.
“If this had ever been a wood structure, especially adjacent to apartment buildings, the potential was certainly there to be a much larger fire than it was, “said Macdonald.
Exactly a year ago, the community saw a string of similar crimes. There were never any arrests and investigators said Sunday’s blaze matches the suspect's style.
“This does have similar patterns, in that the vehicles were off street, they were unattended, it was the morning on a weekend. That sort of goes with the pattern of the previous fires,” said Macdonald.
“Obviously they're upset by it, but they’re grateful no one was injured,” said Macdonald.
Police and the Fire Department are requesting that anyone in the area at the time or anyone who has information come forward.
