RANDOLPH, Mass. (WHDH) -- Millions across the country are taking a chance and hoping to cash in on Wednesday night’s Powerball jackpot.

At a Randolph convenience store customers heard the sweet sound of the lottery machine pumping out Powerball tickets -- the jackpot reaching $550 million on Wednesday afternoon.

Customers were feeling lucky.

“It is the winning ticket. I tend to be very lucky that’s been the story of my life. I feel like today is the day,” said Ann Hill.

Hill opted to pick her own numbers.

“Somebody said you’re not supposed to do a quick pick, I don’t know,” said Hill.

The Powerball has been without a winner since October and within the past few days the jackpot has jumped by more than $100 million, which has people behind the counter working overtime.

“I went to the back by the time I came to the back here, at least 15 people. It’s crazy, but I love the spirit. It’s so fun,” said JJ Jacob, a store employee.

The odds of hitting the jackpot by matching all five numbers and the Powerball are one in 175,233,510, but anyone can dream.

“Everyone says ‘Can you just imagine winning?’ and I say, ‘Yes, I imagine all the time,’” said Michelle Hirsch.

What would you do with the money?
