DORCHESTER, Mass. (WHDH) -- A 24-year-old woman was arraigned in Dorchester District Court Monday on multiple charges including driving under the influence and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Champree Dinkins is accused of crashing her car into two pedestrians on Woodrow Avenue early Saturday morning.

The two victims are an adult male and an adult female. Both were hospitalized with serious injuries. The male victim has since died.

“There was an argument after a party that spilled out onto the street. The defendant got into a car and ran these two people down. Those are essentially the allegations [that it was intentional],” said Michael Callahan, prosecutor.

Callahan said Dinkins was found at her home nearby and admitted she left the scene, fearing for her safety. But Dinkins’ attorney said the young suspect, a mother with two babies at home, has a clean record.

“I don’t see the basis for saying this was intentional in any way. There’s an identification issue here. There’s numerous issues in the case,” said Margaret Barusch, Dinkins’ attorney.

The biggest issue Monday was safety inside the courthouse. Crowds became angry and altercations spilled out onto the street.

Dinkins is being held on $500,000 cash bail. She will likely face more serious charges now that one victim has died.
