BRIGHTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A 24-year-old Boston man was arrested Tuesday night for stabbing a man to death at a New Year’s Eve party.

Alex Breski was a friend of the victim and was at the party.

“I ran right outside when it happened, people were running in different ways and he was on the ground. All his friends were putting pressure on the wounds,” said Breski.

Police said just after 2:30 a.m. a man was stabbed and later died.

“When the paramedics arrived I don't think he was breathing, you know, he wasn't moving too much. They didn't want to put snow on the wounds. They were putting a lot of pressure on the wounds all his roommates. I felt real bad; all his roommates had blood all over their hands," said Breski.

They're upset to hear that someone was killed, but many say they are not surprised.

"That's not the norm though. Not expected. Not on New Year’s,” said Richie Allen.

“I feel like the past year or so, much more of an increase in crime,” said Diana Perkins.

"I mean I’m not surprised because it is New Year’s. It's amateur night. Everyone goes out and gets crazy. It is scary,” said Lana Bueno.

Those who knew the victim were visibly upset and are trying to come to terms with such a horrible incident on the first day of the New Year.

“We always pray for the best. It's all we can do, especially for his family. That’s somebody's son. I can only imagine what my mother would do if that happened,” said Breski.

Police are not releasing the victim's identity yet.
