Fire breaks out in South End apt building

BOSTON (WHDH) -- Boston Fire crews were on the scene of a fire in the South End Thursday morning.

The call came around 4:30 a.m. for a fire on Worcester Square in a 5-story brick brownstone.

There was a fire on the second floor that extended to the third, fourth and fifth floors. A second alarm was ordered.

The fire was out by 6 a.m. and fire investigators were on scene to determine origin and caused.

There were no reported injuries. The building housed five apartments. It was not known how many people were displaced by this fire.

Residents of neighboring buildings were allowed back into their homes - the building that housed the fire was deemed uninhabitable.

The MBTA provided a bus for displaced residents to keep warm.

The Boston Fire Chief estimated the damage at $400,000.

The Boston Fire Department tweeted information as it was available.
