BROCKTON, Mass. (WHDH) -- A Brockton man is accused of driving under the influence and police said this is the eighth time he has been caught.

William Doten, 65, is back behind bars after another drinking and driving incident.

“There's frustration, of course. The police are frustrated, the courts are frustrated and corrections are frustrated,” said Sgt. John Buker, Avon Police Dept.

Doten's license is suspended for life. But Avon police said they found him Thursday night behind the wheel of a red pickup truck after his passenger called 9-1-1.

There was an open bottle of vodka and a couple of other bottles in the truck, according to investigators. They said Doten and his passenger had been driving around for several hours when their truck broke down.

“They were both drunk, very drunk and the truck was running out of gas. It was getting cold,” said Sgt. Buker.

Next week the driver will go before a judge for his eighth drunk driving charge and for driving with a revoked license. It’s a charge that is frustrating to police who have arrested him for the same crime several times before.

“If you don't lock ‘em up for life you have to find some physical way to prevent it,” said Sgt. Buker.

Police said Doten was found not guilty for two of the last seven times he has been charged with drunk driving.
