4 in custody after police chase in Somerville

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (WHDH) -- Police chased a car through Somerville and Medford.

Police tried to stop a car for questioning after reports of gunfire. That vehicle took off.

The people inside bailed out in West Somerville and police followed on foot.

Helicopters searched the area as police dogs and search teams went on a house-to-house hunt.

“A search of the yards with Somerville police assisted by state police and Medford police, we were able to locate three suspects and a firearm,” said Deputy Chief Paul Upton of the Somerville Police Department.

A fourth person who police say was in the car was later taken into custody.

They said -- people in the neighborhood were not in danger.
