BOSTON (WHDH) -- Drivers who were looking to use Interstate 93 South in Boston overnight had to put on the brakes.

Crews shut down all of the southbound lanes between Route 38 and the South Station area.

The detour was set up at 11 p.m. Tuesday. The highway reopened at 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The closure allowed maintenance crews to work on the lower deck, Zakim Bridge, and the Tip O'Neill Tunnel.
