Users split on new idea for Facebook profit
UNDATED (WHDH) -- Facebook users could be paying up if they want Mark Zuckerberg to read their Facebook message.
Zuckerberg of course is a billionaire -- but he's still trying to figure out how to make Facebook more profitable.
One idea being floated is to charge people to guarantee he gets your message.
Facebook users are split on the idea.
With all the “sharing” online, you don't need to shell out a penny for most people's thoughts.
But turn the idea around, would you being willing to pay to cut through noise and capture someone's attention?
“Absolutely not never…for a dollar no way,” said Amanda Ciriello.
Some people might not like the idea, but Facebook is testing the concept of letting you send a message to someone you're not friends with for a fee.
“There are so many other ways you can send messages to people. I think, you know, email,” said Elizabeth Kennedy.
The idea makes sense to some users who say it could be a small price to pay for a big contact.
“A dollar? It depends on if it had some kind of business prospects, yeah,” said Timothy Corbett.
But exactly how much would someone be willing to pay? The tech blog Mashable reports the Facebook testing includes an option to send a message to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg for $100.
