Commuters thankful for cheerful MBTA conductor

BOSTON (WHDH) -- Some MBTA passengers arrived at their final destination with a smile Friday, and it was all thanks to a conductor on the Orange Line.

The train isn't always the friendliest of spots; usually it's just filled with people racing to get from one place to another.

But one conductor decided to liven things up, and some passengers tweeted their thanks.

It’s a voice that makes the Orange Line rush hour a little bit brighter. Commuters took noticed a tweeted about upbeat driver Ja’Ron Freeman.

“Whoever is operating this Orange Line train is the most upbeat, funniest operator I’ve ever heard! Everyone in my car is smiling!” a commuter tweeted. “Seriously, this Orange Line operator is awesome! I want to ride his train every day!”

“When you’re on the subway, sometimes it’s not the most pleasant experience, so to have something like this is pretty uplifting,” said Doug Sherman, a commuter.

Freeman has been driving the rush hour Orange Line for less than a month. Before that, he was on the Red Line where he also made an impact.

“I was the five-star guide on the Red Line last year,” Freeman said.

“A lot of people get on the train and they’re tired, groggy or anything like that. And just to hear something nice and kind also shows the public that we’re people too,” said Nikki Harding, Orange Line superintendent.

So, where does Freeman get all of his happy inspiration?

“Depends on what I’m feeling, I roll with the flow, you know…It just depends on how your day is going. I try to keep positive,” Freeman said.
